From January 12 to February 17, 2023, the House of Economy in Stuttgart became a hotspot of the Baden-Württemberg culture and creative industry – the CREÄTIVE HOUSE.
An innovation space where cultural and creative enterprises had the opportunity to present their projects to a broad audience and connect with stakeholders from economy and politics – both among themselves and across industry boundaries. In addition to two rotating exhibitions, creative salons, workshops, concerts, talks, and after-work lounges took place, focusing on topics of future relevance and creative services such as AI and design, animation and VFX, new media and journalism, and the potential of the creative industry in urban development and rural areas.
Characteristics of the presented projects: sustainable, innovative, future-oriented, inspiring!

The Pop-up 2023 marks the launch of the model project “CreativeLand Baden-Württemberg,” commissioned by the Ministry of Food, Rural Affairs, and Consumer Protection. The goal is to give the public a better understanding of the complex topic of the cultural and creative industry. While Baden-Württemberg is well-positioned in this sector, there is still a need to strengthen the visibility and image of the cultural and creative industry, particularly in rural areas. The enormous potential of rural regions, their innovative and transformative power for the economy and society, and the technological, economic, and social relevance of the cultural and creative economy for the development of rural areas as economic and cultural locations are still poorly visible and little research has been conducted on it. There is a lack of cooperation and networks, funding and support, places and meeting points, alliances, and strong partners both within the sector and with communities and businesses from other industries.
Therefore, the focus now is on shaping and growing CreativeLand BW.

As part of the model project, data of the industry were collected in the rural areas for the first time from October 2022 to March 2024. In dialogue events, industry stakeholders and representatives from administration and politics compared the results with practical insights and gathered recommendations for future actions. The dialogue process also served as a networking event for creatives, stakeholders, and innovators. This led to the emergence of data, opportunities, and momentum for better promoting, connecting, and showcasing the culture and creative economy in rural areas. It highlights the diverse potential of rural regions, especially the significant design possibilities and open spaces.

Triad of dialogue events: Inform, inspire, participate!
An art competition in September 2024, “Shaping CreativeLand BW!”, aimed to create new networks, enhance visibility, generate income for creatives, establish meeting points, and promote initiatives that build alliances and foster growth in the rural creative sector.
The motto of the competition is: “Share your values – Show your works”

Nationwide lighthouse projects like “THE CREÄTIVE HOUSE” can enhance the visibility of the sector and promote Baden-Württemberg as “THE CREATIVELAND” by involving stakeholders, associations, and businesses. So far, no other federal state has conducted such a publicly impactful event with similar support and presence from the state and politics. Due to the project’s nationwide significance, there is already an offer from the Regional Council to hold “THE CREÄTIVE HOUSE – Volume 2” in Karlsruhe in September 2025.
The innovation and impact of Baden-Württemberg’s culture and creative economy will be publicly showcased again in 2025.
